There is no better feeling than finally being able to fall asleep in your own bed back home. When you are a college student, there will always be a list of people, places, and things you will tend to miss throughout your semesters at college. One of the most obvious is family and friends, especially if some of your best friends went to a different college than you. However, the bright side of being apart from those you love is that when you finally do get to see them, it will be the best feeling ever.
Something less obvious now, but that you will realize once you go to college, are the things and memories you will miss: the way your light hits your wall in the mornings, all of your books and decorations in your room, and being able to park your car right in your own driveway. If you live in a dorm your first year, you will definitely miss taking a shower without flip flops, and being able to step out of the shower and onto a towel mat. These are just a few of the things you may miss, but overall you will learn to love your new home on campus just as much as your old.
Another thing you won’t realize how much you love until you leave home will be your parents’ cooking. Cooking on your own will take time and practice, something your parents usually always took care for you. Even if you have the meal plan, the selection will eventually get old pretty fast. When you finally do get the chance to go back home, take advantage of the laundry appliances and do laundry, or maybe even beg your mom to give you a hand. There will be plenty of things you will want to do with your parents, from shopping to simply spending time with them. Homesickness is a real thing, and I promise almost everyone gets homesick at one point or another. For those of you who live near water, expect to miss the beach! I know I do, and I plan to take advantage of South Florida’s beaches when I come back home this winter break.
