So college football is usually all anybody thinks about, but there are a lot of college Spring sports to look forward to as well. I want to share the ones I am most looking forward to this Spring.
The biggest sporting event in the spring for the University of Florida is probably March Madness. March Madness is a single elimination tournament of 64 basketball teams that is played throughout the month of March. This year, the Florida Gators are a number five seed in the tournament and have a good chance of making it to the Sweet Sixteen or the Elite Eight.
Basketball games are huge at the University of Florida. We have a student section called “The Rowdy Reptiles” and the student section is absolutely crazy. If it is a big game, students will camp out in front of our brand new basketball arena so that they can get great seats. Basketball tickets are free to University of Florida students, and you can get tickets by registering for them on Monday nights before games.
The second biggest spring sport is probably baseball. Right now, our baseball team is ranked number two in the country. Because we are so highly ranked, the turnout for our games is huge. McKethan stadium is a beautiful stadium to watch the games in. The student sections for the baseball games are down the third base line and also in left field.
Getting seats in left field is very fun because you get to hassle the other team’s left fielder. Also, you might even get to catch a home run ball while you’re sitting in left field. Tickets for the baseball games are free for students, and all you have to do is go to the field and show your Gator one id.
Other spring sports that are fun to watch include men’s and women’s tennis, women’s lacrosse, and track and field. There is also the football spring game, which is a great time to watch our football play and practice.
