Guest blogger, Gabriela Davila helps us understand why she made the decision to attend UF.
I chose the University of Florida because I think it is the best school in Florida on an academic basis. My incoming class of freshmen is the most qualified class they have admitted so far, with one of the highest average GPAs the university has seen. The success of the freshman class stems from an increasingly selective admissions process at UF which has resulted in a slightly intimidating group of fellow peers. No matter what your major, every professor seems absolutely dedicated to your success and learning while at UF, but more importantly, dedicated to preparing you for higher education. This preparation for graduate school, law school, medical school, or whatever you may choose, is something professors and administrators emphasize from your very first day of orientation during Freshman Preview.
Despite their GPAs, extracurriculars, and declared majors, every person I encountered on tours and during orientation was absolutely lovely. My class of freshman, as well as upperclassman students at UF, and even professors, were all dedicated to making my experience there as enjoyable as possible. They created a comfortable, supportive atmosphere that I believe spawns success, growth, and individuality.
Finally, having several Gators in my family, I am no stranger to the fun a person can have at UF. From football games to Gator Growl to the dance marathon to weekends at Lake Wauburg, there is so much to do on and around campus that there really is not enough time to try everything. In addition to an impressive recreational sports facility offering everything from Aqua Zumba to underwater hockey, UF boasts over 1,000 student organizations to get involved in. And of course, the Greek life at UF is incredibly fun, but the Greek community actually has a higher average GPA than the average of the entire student body! Not to mention, with so many different chapters and organizations, everyone is sure to find a place where they fit in.
