Guest blogger, Marena Strauss (middle) helps us understand why she made the decision to attend UCF.
I love exploring new places, meeting new people and learning new things. So when I was searching for places that I would want to spend the next four years of my life, the University of Central Florida seemed to fit the bill perfectly. The campus is beautiful and just far enough away from home to be a new adventure, the student body is pretty huge with so many new faces to see, and the academics are outstanding.
1. The Location
I grew up in South Florida just about three hours away from UCF; however, the environment in North Florida is pretty different from what I’m used to. It gets much colder up there, the ocean has actual waves and it is definitely not the tropics, but I am still pretty stoked to be out of my comfort zone. There are so many things to do and places to see in Orlando that I can’t wait for.
2. The Campus
The UCF campus is amazing as well; for such a large school, they did a great job at keeping nature and openness a part of the community which I love. The large student body at UCF is just big enough to allow a new face to appear every day, but I also have the option to keep a close knit group and make it as small as I want. Not many people I know are going to UCF so I’m excited to make new friends and start a new chapter of my life in a new place. The diversity in the student body is also super interesting to me and I can’t wait to discover all the different people I will come across.
3. The Academics
The academics are great at UCF. It seems that not many people realize how good of a school UCF is but it has some outstanding academic programs. Their engineering program is one of the best in the nation, and so is their business school. I plan to study Sports Management and Marketing and the opportunities that I have to enter industries with degrees in those fields are numerous.
I am so excited to begin my journey at the University of Central Florida and to see all the places life will take me!
